> Follow-up on p990i Audio crackle issue
Bookmark topic
Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum so I hope this post does not insult anyone's intelligence.
I have a p990i vanilla (no carrier restriction.) latest firmware and everything. As mentioned by some users, the music playback on the phone is dreadful to say the least. There is a constant static/crackle audible on soft/low music. It's annoying to say the least, and even more so for a smartphone which is supposed to be an mp3 player.
There was another post on this issue but it was ended without a solution and / or a definitive statement if this were fault on some or all devices and whether or not it's a hardware or software issue.
Any input? Should I just break the damn thing or are there healthy units out there.
Much appreciated!

as you know,p990 is not designed as a music phone so you should expect that the media player(mp3 player will not be of that quality)for me as i former 6600 user i see p990 music player is v.good either by earphones or in my car by MMC60 cable.
note:there are alot of high quality player for UIQ3 but believe me i don't know any of them.
regards,

What i can say about this is that i watch movies and listen to music and podcasts, through my hbh ds970 headset, and my only trouble regarding sound quality is the stupid low maximum sound volume. I think i noticed some hissing when music is paused or very low, but that is hardly a problem...they can left it like that and improve the sound volume and i, and most people, will be pleased

Oh sure, the volume is the second most upsetting issue for me. I guess some people are not bothered by certain foreign sounds (like a pesky static) and I do envy you
Although many users have complained about it, some of whom owned M600i handsets. It's really sad because aside from this issue, I'm in love with the phone, and I have tried every smartphone out there during the last couple of months.

I have to say that's a pretty disingenuous answer - the fact that the P990 and M600 aren't Walkman branded is not an excuse for the audio quality on these devices to be significantly below that of any MP3 player SE have produced to date. In any case, you can't justify dismissing them as "not music phones" when both models were advertised for their music abilities as well as all their other features.
Fair enough, they may well lack some of the Walkman handsets music features (TrackID etc), but that doesn't mean their audio quality should be sub-standard. On the W950, would you find it acceptable for the messaging app to make all your emails unreadable, because really its a music and not messaging phone? Of course not!

i also have a problem like this on my p990 and it is really annoying.. when someone calls me i hear a real loud crackling noise sometimes. i just ignore it though maybe it is an issue with weak signals that cause that.. but i know it is not normal..
a help will be appreciated otherwise, i'll just accept the fact that i own a p990i.. nothin new about bugs..
i have r9e/r4b firmware anyway..

Not true.
I've never experienced any crackles or any sort of thing with my P990i.
Maybe while playing music, I experience a very low volume (max).
Which is disappointing considering I used the P900, and P800 and both had an EXCELLENT level of max. volume.

ahmed-sama, it is true. You may not have noticed it - indeed your phone may for whatever reason not have the same fault - but there definitely
is a widespread issue of low-level crackle during music playback on the P990 and M600. There have been far too many reports of it here for us all to be making it up.
That said, it doesn't bother me that much personally, due to the way I generally use my music player - generally on a bus when there's far too much background noise for it to notice - but obviously not everyone is so fortunate. If you're someone that generally listens to quieter music in quieter environments, you're right out of luck.
What really bothers is that SE's attitude (and that of some posters here) seems to be that it's somehow acceptable on these high-end phones - I really don't see how.
@noblewolf - to be fair, I think you have a different issue (probably reception) - I've never heard the crackle on a call. Not the same crackle, anyway.

if you're talking about the crackle in music playback from the loudspeaker, I do experience it but not frequently
