i love my p990i
its slow. it has very few apps out. yea its not as stable as windows pocket pc
but for me. style is important, lifespan of the model is important, and ease of use.
ive found that in symbian/uiq.
i have used nokia n series phones, p910, mda, pocket pc, palm os pda's and ive always came back to p910.and now p990. i dont know why. i know its limits and lack of support but there are also good sides of this phone.
i love symbian os. i didnt like nokia because it doesnt have touch screen first of all and secondly.. nokia symbian os3.0 is just bland... i dont like the GUI, interface much at all.
windows pocket pc has the world. it has everything. but again its too much for me. when i leave my home. I AM ALSO LEAVING MY WINDOWS PC behind me. its too much. its too complex. not for me
palm os.. great platform. great for functionality and simplicity to the base definition of a pda. but its been getting outdated for wireless/internet use and well it doesnt have the feeling of being fresh and new anymore. they need to update it. i know their next palm os is based on linux so i am very looking forward to it.
p990i offers me the things i need. mp3. videos. email. internet browser thats built in. and most of all, basic pda functions. i love the keyboard. i do alot of texting. i love the screen, its sharp. and most of all i love the styling of the phone.. because i have fashion sense. and with that comes alot of acknowledgments and eyelookers when i use my phone. alot of people have complimented on it already withing 4days of ownership. i bought this pda cuz i see sony is working on patches and improving performance. its not at a solid state as we all like to see it at, but its getting there. and i cant wait to have the p990 later, i want the full bang for the buck. i wanted it now. and i have it. love it. and will support it.
Questions:
What is the led light next to the camera button for? how can you turn it on?
Will there be any VOip software out for p990. i.e. skype for widows mobile...
??

the led light is an indicator that the camera app is initializing. it will turn off once the camera is ready..
about the voip.. sooner for sure there will be an app for that..

hmmnn.. no comment really.. dont want to sing songs out of tune here.. hehehe.. for me i just love my phone because it is a status symbol. what i mean is, this phone is not for everybody. you've gotta be a smart-a$$ to appreciate a phone like this because it does more than just calling and texting. you can make it work more than just a phone it's just a matter of using your nutshell to extend it's features like the way you want it to work. endless possibilities that is. got a friend who traded his p990i with two n70's because of instability issues. he still has r7a and not even a 3rd party game or app installed after using it for 6months! he indeed forgot that he has a brain. hehehehe
well, kinda off-topic. but i think sman works better for p990 since it supports hot key for closing all apps. ma phone is more stable with sman than with smp imo.. just quite a bitch to be signed though.. hehehe.. good job ajack and droll! keep it coming!

Mate I agree with your review but laughed at loud at where you proclaimed you have fashion sense. The P900 and P910 were things of beauty streamlined and beautfully crafted minimlisim. But the P990 is a chunky Treo knock off with a horrid fixed keypad it's lost its razor sharp sleek looks for chunky cpmplicated design. Sony Ericsson held back so they could intorduce platform sharing (aka M600 and W950i) to make as much money as possible. Gone are the risk taking days of the P800 where they put everything on the line simply as they were getting hammered by Nokia and Samsung....I deviate I apologise.
One of the reasons why i've stuck with my P910i and gave the P990i away was due to the lack of innovation and this backward step Sony took.

I searched google and the forum BEFORE I post that post.
and I only found SMan 1.4 for UIQ 2.x :s
No trace of any SMan for UIQ 3

im still using the unsigned one. but im happy with the way it works. you just need to download a whole buncha things and tools including the 200+MB of software development kit to have it signed. hehehe.. just go to this site and everything is there complete with instructions..
