i would like to make my own theme, but i don't have any photo editing skills, but viewing some themes i noticed i could make a real good theme by combining different elements from different themes. the problem is how can i extract, let's say scrolling bar from a theme? in themes creator,when i open a theme i only have 2 options when changing a picture: import or remove and if i don't apply any picture over the one already there, the remove button is inactive.

Open the .thm file with WinRar Archiver. Is that what you mean?
