Help, I just backed up my phone, updated the firmware. Re-installed everything and did a restore but I can't seem to get my handy safe data back? Any ideas or any ideas on where the backup program stores it's files?
Thanks

do you have the desktop application installed? if yes, it should be on your laptop and next time you sync, it will show up in the phone.
If not, the FW upgrade deleted all of it. unless it's somewhere on the private folders, on the MS card, but I doubt you can easily find it.

I think the Handy Safe data is backed up by the Multimedia item in the Backup Manager (NOT the MemoryStick one, since the data resides in c:\\Media files\\other). Try restoring that item separately (with Handy Safe installed).
If that doesn't help, or 'Multimedia' wasn't backed up, and you don't have the desktop (PC) application installed, you're screwed.

It depends WHERE you have/had HandySafe installed. I have it on Memory Stick. It never restores, BUT I just re-install it after the restore and it overrights some files during install, just say YES and afterwards you have to activate/register it and then all the data is just there....
If you installed it in phone, then I think its gone. Unless you do a restore from the desktop safe.

Thanks for the advice people. Looks like I've lost over 200 bits of info. I didn't use the desktop safe as I have Vista as my main operating system and despite all the help given in other threads I still couldn't get PC Suite to work on Vista.
When I re-installed the safe, it did say it was overwriting files but it appears to have overwritten the data too.
I'll just have to wait to see if Epocware has any advice but otherwise c'est la vie. I do like the P990 but on days like this I could happily put it under a bus!

Not sure if this helps.
"Handy Safe stores its data in two files: Safe.ind and Safe.dat in the C:\\Media files\\other\\Handy Safe folder on the phone"
After restore, check if these two files are there. If yes, perhaps you're in luck. Save it somewhere else first. If you need to reinstall the app, if you over write these data files, just copy these 2 files back to the folder.
I have not tried it on P990, but it works on those P910 days.
Good luck.
