> 3 Launch Flat Rate 'Unlimited' Data
Bookmark topic
3 UK has launched a £5 a month flat rate data tariff to encourage usage of the mobile internet outside of its X-Series customer base.
The 'unlimited' tariff (up to 1GB of data a month) is available to those among 3 UK's 3.9 million customers with 'recently' launched handsets.
It is designed to complement 3's existing X-Series multimedia package, which already bundles stuff like Skype, Yahoo, MSN, Slingbox and Orb with unlimited data for £5 or £10 a month.
3 is initially touting the flat rate tariff as a cheap way for high volume IM or email users to make merry while on the move.
John Penberthy-Smith, 3’s marketing director, said: "Building on the innovation and success of X-Series, our latest mobile internet package gives our customers freedom to use the internet on the move and to choose a handset which really works for them."
3 is also offering customers a Video Talk 500 deal, which includes 500 anytime video call minutes to any network for £15 a month.

Good move by 3 and they should be congratulated.
The full use of mobile features is stifled by high data tariffs - O2 being one of the worst culprits. This is a step in the right direction.

its about time another carrier took this step and so this, combined with their recent announcement of their flat rate roaming to other three countries (like Australia) makes itstart to get quite interesting

Indeed!
The three deal even threatens t-mobile as best data tariff. Another good thing about it is both networks are geared towards high-speed data too.
All we need now is more 3.5G phones to take advantage.

Has 3's 'ringfence' come down completely now, i.e. could you check Esato etc. on this tarriff or are you limited to what 3 think you want to look at?

Hi all,
Lets not forget for all their teething troubles 3 is owned and run by Hutchinson Whampoa who are a huge player in the Mobile Phone industry. They were the original owners of Orange back when Orange actually was the best Network. To be honest there Data deals are now actually better value than T-Mobiles and that's saying something, although not sure 3 have HSDPA which may give T-Mobile the edge for now.
Voda's new deals are still £2 odd per megabyte and even a larger package deals are not really competitive. From looking at 02 online their Data charges are also just as bad. I might even join 3 myself towards the end of year as they allowing streaming and have an excellent deal on Slingbox but at long last Data has not only got faster enough with the hardware to support it but also cheap enough to be actually use with out having to worry about the cost IMO.

Well the cheapest on t-mobile is £7.50 but we should really take apart 3's policy first.
@Sammy_boy.
I am not sure if they still have their 'Walled Garden' but if they do then they are silly. People like choice. What would be the point! They should really be sizing up to Web n Walk - thats the way forward.
AFAIK, t-mobile is making good headway with 3.5G. I haven't heard of the other networks making as big effort as tMo.
