Hi Everyone,
My P990i is on R4A13 and i have this weird problem when i sync. I get lots of duplicated names in my outlook contact and duplicates of appointments in my outlook calendar too. Also, on several occasions, the 'delete message' line just disappears under your SMS menu. I've written to SE but nver got a reply.
Also, whenever i wana add photos to a contact in my phone, it doesnt allow me to add. a blank cartoonic photo with a crack in the middle will just appear.
I'm wondering whether has the new R5 firmware addressed all these problems?

man i thought after upgrading to R5A17 i would solve this problem but NO. sony Ericsson should seriously look into this as it is very frustrating to find duplicates in yr outlook or yr phone. worse still, the no. of duplicates increases every time u sync! and when i delete these duplicates from my phone and then do a resync with my pc, the entire contact which has a duplicate is deleted(including the the single contact left behind in outlook) resulting in me reentering the contact all over again:-(

It's not the phone. it's the PC Suite that screws up the things.
see my other post (bottom of the page), maybe it helps ya.

Also go to Advanced Settings in the Pc Suite to choose how to handle sync.Choose one of the 1st two but not the last, that generates duplicates.

Yeah I'm having th same problem.
Just updated to R5A17 and noticed I've now a few contacts that have 9 copies! Some have 3 as well.
Even when you select Contacts in the Delete policy so if you delete it on the phone it also deletes it on the pc - yeah right! just ended up with even more!
If you do an Advanced Sync - and select the "Overwrite PC" - does this delete all PC entries for the selected categories being sync'd & then copy all the phone ones over
or - does it just copy the Phone items over and replace the similar items on pc with the phone version.
Cheers for any help.

I might have found an work-around to this issue. Even though I said I have no more duplicates, I noticed that I have 13 contacts that get duplicated all the time.
Also, keep in mind that the Phone does not have any duplicates. These duplicates are only on the PC.
So here is what I did.
- On the contacts view, go in the
phone list view, and add the field called
modified. You will notice that the duplicated contacts get always the newest time. I am saying this because if you try to remove one of the duplicates, only the newest will be deleted form the phone as well. If you delete the oldest from the PC, this will not affect the Phone.
- After you have the duplicated contacts on focus, individually go in any one of these, and
Export them as Vcard, to desktop let's say.
- Now
delete the duplicates and the newest contacts from the PC. This means to delete any trace of the troubled contacts.
- Next step is to
Synchronize. You will notice that the same duplicated contacts now get deleted from the Phone as well.
- Lastly
send the Vcards via BlueTooth and synchronize again.
By doing the steps in the order above, I was able to keep all f my contacts and do not get duplicates anymore.
