I'm new to all this firmware updates and stuff like that. I own a P990i, can someone explain to me the meaning of updating firmwares, also how does it benefit the phone, how often does it need to be done, and how can I do it
Thanks

you only need to do when one is available. once in 2-3 months.you lose everything when updating and to do that you need to download from
www.sonyericsson.com the update service
the link to seus (sony ericsson update service):

Alright, I'm trying to update my firmware right now, and when I installed the Sony Ericsson program to do so it said update selected : "P990i Generic Signapore" no clue why? Does this mean I'm installing something in a complete different language? Would I need to install language packs, dictionaries etc? or is everything going to be in english. this is my first time trying

Generic Singapore would mean your CDA has an ending of /8 (162007/8). No other installation required, just go on for the update, it just means your version supports the local setting, ie language, but you can still choose English as your language of course. World Generic 1 & 2 (ending with /1 & /2) would usually have the latest firmwware versions first, followed by localized or branded phones. Good luck with the update!
