If this has been covered before, I apologize in advance. I searched and I could not find anything.
I just purchased my first s710a, but my 5th SE phone. I love SE.
The styling on this phone is wonderful.
Here is the problem. Of course, bad menu lag. I have read a lot about it. I still don't know how to fix it, as my phone shows me having the most up to date firmware, R2A016. (Please correct me if that is older firmware.)
And second, this phone looses signal in every store and building I am in. It just completely loses the ability to make or receive calls. I have never had a phone do that before.
My t637, which I miss dearly, is also GSM 850, 1800, and 1900. It had wonderful reception in stores. The s710a, it loses Cingular once every 5 minutes just driving around town. I wander in the mall or at wal-mart quite frequently, but no one can contact me now.
It is not unlocked, it's still cingular branded. Is there anything I can do for this phone. I have had it two days now, and I like I said, I love the styling, and the SE interface, I just need a phone that can make and receive calls.
Otherwise I will have to put this lovely phone on ebay and that breaks my heart.

I looked up that number and it shows my firmware as Rogers.
I live in Texas.
I thought Rogers was a provider from another country?
Maybe it should not matter.

If your phone were unlocked, I would it say it doesn't matter at all. Rogers is one of Canada's GSM providers, and their customization of the firmware - the R2A016 - is the most up-to-date one. It's also as close to "unbranded" as the phone is going to get: (1) there was no
uncustomized firmware for the S710a, and (2) the Rogers firmware doesn't hardly have anything carrier-specific in it. (The only thing I noticed was that the Ringtones folder is called "Ringtunes.")
But, you mention your phone is still locked to Cingular. I would guess that having the phone locked to one provider, while running the firmware of another, might be causing the problem. That's just a guess, though, as I've never had a phone in that situation. My S710a also came from Cingular, and I had it unlocked, then flashed to the newest (Rogers) firmware, without incident.
I suggest you send your phone to
iUnlock for unlocking, and to be safe, also have it reflashed with the R2A016 firmware. I've used iUnlock extensively without issues, and can vouch for the quality of their work and service.
As for the UI sluggishness... the only thing you can do is delete as many themes, ringtones, images, etc. as you can bare to leave off the phone. That does help some. But it's still a very slow phone, one of several reasons I didn't keep my S710a very long, and also
