> Windows XP to be retired in 2008
Bookmark topic
Windows XP will stop being available on new PCs from the end of January 2008.
Microsoft is keeping to a plan to stop selling the operating system even though surveys show a lukewarm response to Windows Vista among consumers.
A poll by US market research firm Harris Interactive found that only 10% of those questioned were planning to upgrade to Vista in the near future.
All versions of XP, including those made for media centre or tablet PCs, are affected by the decision.

4 years is far too short. they could perfect it in that time! almost as what they have done with xp actually...it's alright-ish now, although not the best... when you look at macs, apple have had the same kind of os (osx) since 2001 (i think? or 2000, or was it 1999???)
although, i do think apple need to have a major rethink...their looks of mac os x are looking ooolllddd to me now tbh! it's been out since 2001...can you theme os x easily though? because all the machines i've ever seen running it only have the normal set up....which, don't get me wrong, is beautiful! but it could get a bit sickening after a while...like windows does aswell...but it's mac! it shouldn't! lol

Very interesting.
I certainly be happy to continue with xp, skip Vista and pick up a new Vienna equipped notebook in 2009.

I think it will still RUN longer than next year . . . as I remember in the past that those: Windows 95, 98 and 98 SE are still in demand after years of being sold in the market . . .
What's with Bill Gates and why he the latest NAMES of it's Operating Systems starts with the letter: \"V\" - Vista and Vienna

H m m m m m . . . what he'll be thinking of next . . . : Vampire, Vulture, Vulcanizing, Vladimir, Voluptuous, Vendetta et al

It's just a coincidence. Maybe they will decide to change the name.

Yes they almost certainly will. 'Vienna' is the codename for the project, not the final name! Like 'Longhorn' was the codename for vista
