I had tried to update two different SE phones in different times - the first was my wife's K610i and the second was my P990i. Both time SEUS told me firmware was up to date. It took me long time to download the update software, to install it and some more download before checking if the update is available. Final achievement was nil for both cases. (I had uninstalled the update software after I failed to update K610i.)
I am wondering why SE can't provide a simple service - we input some basic phone information related to the update to SE website and SE just provide - "yes" or "no" type reply. As such service is not available I need to connect my phone to the SE server to find out if the update is available or not. Now update is available for some versions of the P990i but not for my P990i. I naturally expect upgrade for my unbranded phone. I understand that it may be difficult to provide update for all versions at the same time. As I have Hong Kong version with traditional Chinese it will take longer. But how long? Few days, few weeks, few months or few years? Should I connect my phone to the SE server everyday to find out if the update is available? Or should I check once a week, or once a month or once a year?
I trusted SE (and bought the phone even though it was not up to my expectation as far as firmware is concerned). Finally upgrade is available, but not for my phone! And I don't know when it will be available! I am angry and frustrated.
As my phone is under life-time warranty (until I have the service contract) I don't want to change its CDA version just for the current upgrade which might jeopardize the warranty. If there was no upgrade available for anybody or have an idea when I could expect the upgrade for my phone then I could stay calm!

What do you think about the checking method for availability of new firmware I have suggested in my post above? Or do you think SEUS is the best solution even for just checking if new firmware for a particular phone is available?

I think SEUS should be made with options similar to these:
- Check the newest available firmware before pluging the phone in (by entering your current firmware version and etc...);
- Firmware downgrade (as it has update one) so users that don't use FAR and similar programs can easily switch back to the previous firmware, if they don't find the new one useful.

strizlow800, I totally agree with you.
