> P990 Stress Cracks Repair?
Bookmark topic
I recently discovered some cracks forming at the bottom of my P990's casing. After examining them closely, they appear to be stress cracks that have propagated from the screws used to take the flip on and off. I tried to take a couple pictures to show this, but they didn't come out too well.
First question: Does anyone else have this problem?
Second question: Would SE repair this under warranty or would I have to replace that part of the housing?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

u should be able to fix through your warranty, they should replace the housing.... its

own design fault, not something caused by you, so should be fine using warranty...

Thanks! That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. Anyone had any experience with SE USA repair? How long does it take them to get the phone back to you?

Sorry Tail. I know how you feel. It drove me crazy when someone mentioned the "popping" sound that the speaker on the P990 emits when it turns off, and then I found out that mine did it too.
The cracks are pretty frustrating because my phone is in perfect condition otherwise. And I don't think I ever tightened the screws too much. I've only removed/replaced the flip a couple of times also.
I don't know of any service centers here in the US, but I'll probably give SE a call tomorrow and see what they say. I'll keep you guys posted on my progress.
EDIT: Ok, here's the update. Bad news. I called SE support a few minutes ago, and was told this could not be repaired under warranty (even if it's their own design flaw, as long as the phone still functions). And then worse news. The base cost for a cosmetic repair not covered by the warranty is $185. That's ridiculous! They just have to replace one piece of plastic. Maybe if a lot of other people have the same problem, they will agree to a repair? So let me know if your P990 has a similar problem. Thanks.

since the screws have very fine threads in it, if you put the screw in and tighten it right away with the screw driver and the thread is not aligned properly, that is when this problem will occur because the screw pushes the entire circumference of the hole outwards.. so better to be sure that the threads are matched first before tightening..
..just my 2cents..
