Hi all...

I bought a T68ie (R2E006) in the Philippines (Green Hills to be exact) and want to upgrade the software to the latest version.

I'm currently in Sydney, Australia and when I tried to get the phone updated at Sony Ericsson's service center in Rockdale, I was told that their software update could corrupt my phone since it's an ie (Chinese)model.

Is there a service center here in Sydney that can upgrade my T68ie?

Thanks.

I had similar problem with a T39mc I got in HK. Service Centres would not touch them as they only support models with local release. Fortunately I had a business trip back to HK and got it flashed then. Otherwise they charge around A$40 for a job out of warranty.

I would suggest that you contact one of the Asian SC. They are usually happy to receive mail-in. It's a hassle with time lost but I suspect it's the only option you have.

Yeah, interacted with both official service centres (St Leonard and Rockdale). Neither of them would touch a phone that's not released in Australia ie. T39mc. However, they are both happy to flash a T68i that was purchased in Taiwan with Chinese firmwares on it, but it'll be a standard Aussie firmware version.

What Service Centres say about this is just crap... They can always download any frirmware they like (using Emma-II's feature to connect to SE server and download firmware updates) for any phone and any customization and use Emma-II to upgrade your phone. A friend of mine owns an Authorized Sony-Ericsson Service center and up to now have downloaded many upgrades for many phones. Last week, they updated a 3628 (chineese version of 2628 with no antenna) without any problem.... They also change language to phones bought outside Greece to make them work properly with Greek SMS. So if they wanted they could help you.....

Well, I don't know about how these business are run. But the explanation I got was that it was their standard business procedure. Their point was that they don't want to pick up the liability if the flash goes bad. They also stated that they could not properly test foreign languages. I did not push too hard as I didn't want to end up with a dead brick nor lose my warranty.

I posted this last November but I guess it still sparked a discussion. Anyway, I was able to upgrade my T68ie when I returned to the Philippines. Sony Ericsson Service Solutions (SESS) in Makati upgraded my phone with no issues and for free.

I am back in the U.S. and now have to deal with sending my phones to Minnesota for any upgrades. I think Sony Ericsson should aggressively start to recruit and educate service centers across the U.S. so that we don't have to deal wih this crap.

That's my 2 cents at least.

Cheers...

Ron
