i noticed that when my phone is set to "gprs & gsm" (as opposed to only "gsm"), it seems to emit a lot more "radiation" (i.e. causes interference on tv's, radios, etc.), pretty much constantly and from a greater distance, even when i'm not using the phone (gprs or conversation). also, the battery gets drained MUCH faster when the phone is set to "gprs & gsm" (about 2 days, as opposed to the 4-6 days i usually get on "gsm" alone). when it's just on "gsm", i get the interference only when i receive a phone call or sms. the thing is, i thought i needed to have it set to "gprs & gsm" to use gprs (wap) or to receive mms's, but after noticing this "radiation" issue, i turned it back to "gsm" and figured that i would just turn it back to "gprs & gsm" when i needed to use wap (via gprs). but then i noticed that even when it's on "gsm" only, i can receive and send mms's no problem, and i can connect to wap (via gprs) just as i did before! and this way, i don't get all the interference i was getting when it was on "gprs & gsm", and my battery lasts a lot longer...
in summary, i seem to be able to do EVERYTHING with the phone on "gsm" that i can do when it's on "gprs & gsm", except without the extra "radiation" and with longer battery time. so what i want to know is--is there ANY advantage to having the phone set on "gsm & gprs"?!?! if not, why do they have this function at all?

That is wierd. I just tried the same thing, and it does use GPRS, despite the fact that you have choosen "Only GSM". It does take a few seconds longer to connect though. But that doesn't matter much, if you get longer standby times...

The "radiation" / interferance you are talking about is normally only noticeable if you are in a poor signal area and/or using the phone. If you get it all the time I'd get the phone checked at a local Service Centre.
Battery should be almost totally unaffected by the GPRS settings. GPRS will check the network connection from time to time, but that's all.
If you're using GPRS for your WAP connection then I doubt it's the GPRS settings that are changing your battery life. I've found that the battery life reported by the handset is vague at best.

anyone have any idea why this "feature" is there if all it seems to do is harm your health more (increased radiation) and decrease your battery life???

i get this "interference" when gprs is on even when i have full reception strength. and i don't think it's the phone, as my g/f's t68 does exactly the same... as for the battery life, i'm not going by the amount of hours listed, but rather comparing how long my phone normally lasts when it's set to "gsm" only, to the battery life i get when it's set to "gprs & gsm" (a lot less...).

I will try using my phone with a fully charged battery with it set to Only GSM, and then I will see if it makes any difference

isn't there anyone with "insider information" (e.g. someone who works for SE), that can tell us what (if any) advantage there is to setting the phone on "gprs & gsm" rather than just "gsm"???
