Is this just the same as every other network and needing to give them a call and pay the £15?
Ive aquired a K800 but its locked to '3' so need it unlocking asap

you need to be the original owner of the phone, or pretend you are, by verifying your address over the phone, and DOB, and mobile number... then you can only buy the unlock code if you are in the final month of your contract (ie 11 or 17) for £15. The code may well be sent to the original 3 phone number and no told to you over the phone.
if you are not near the contract end then it will cost you like £15*(months remaining)+15
so your talking about more than the phone is worth, i forget the name of this charge, but it is necessary whether you are canceling the contract or not.
Theres companies online that can offer 3 unlock codes for £30 I think. PM me for details.

what I said only applies to contract phones unless im very much mistaken.
however all phones which require unlocking from 3 need to be registered to someboday, so if it is already registered to someone else then you cant gain the unlocking code i dont think.
