Just wondering if it's practical on e.g. the W810 and K550. Also, how well would this work with IMAP accounts?

I used it before although i switched to the gmail app, which doesnt use the phone memory in storing emails and has a nicer interface.

I have used a T610, K750i, S700i and W900i with yahoo email.
The W900i / k750i clients were the best, allowing you to set up multiple email accounts and download attachments and explore links to web pages etc.
I would say they are adequate but at the same time quite good for file sharing such a MP3 and large JPEGs etc. (good data account needed).
Never used an IMAP account though.

I've done email on just about every phone I have had that has an email client, though I've never had an account with imap
I can't really remember the first phone I had with email client but possibly it was Nokia 9000

I have an account setup, but not my main email address. data charges are too steep still to use the email for my main email. when I use it though it works great. The main disadvantage is the inability to read word, excel and pdf doc attachments.
for that reason I use my pda for mobile email needs except when I leave it at home (it's an xda mini, so a phone it's own right, but I use bluetooth on it to connect to my k750 for internet, so as to avoid having two mobile phone accounts. I prefer my K750 as a phone/camera over the xda mini. Basically I use it as a pda rather than a phone)
