Hi, i recently sent in my W850i for repair as the microphone had stopped working on it - everything else worked fine and for a few weeks after the phones mic broke i solely used it with a headset and never had a problem.

A couple of weeks after i sent in the phone i get a letter stating that the phone is water damaged and that I'd have to pay to have it returned - whch i did. I also asked for them to provide me with proof that it is water damaged and they said that they would email it to me.

Fast forward to today, i received the phone back however, it has not been put back together properly with the top slid thingie not fixed to the bottom part properly (2 screws missing) + the slide is not aligned properly. Anyway i was pretty angry and called the repair centre who said all i can do is send it back in to them and they'll have a look at it. I again asked for some proof to show that it has been water damaged and again they said they would email me it.

At this point i'm not too sure what to do - they haven't shown me any proof that the phone has been water damaged nor have they put the phone back together properly and all round they seem to be an incompetent bunch.

Is there anything that i can do to get the phone fixed as from what i can remember the phone has not been near any water or is there any way for me to check myself to see if has been water damaged? Has anyone else ever been fobbed of by the 'water damage' line?

I have a nasty feeling this is a commonly used excuse by companies to not repair damaged phones

Sounds like a bit of a fly by night company too, can't repair phones for toffee!

Hi, yeah thats what i was thinking - especially as they couldn't put the phone back together properly but its the one SE told me to send the phone to when i phoned them up so i would have thought they would be half decent.

This is the system to check water damage. First open the batt cover and look for 3by3mm stiker. Its white color stiker, but but if its touched by water it becomes pink or red depending upon the model.

Hi, ive checked and the only white thing i can find that small is on the battery and that is white, not red or pink - but i dont think they used this method to check if the phone is water damaged as they obviously had my phone opened up.

Thats right!

If you take the battery out and look at the top end of it, you will see a little 'flag' which as soon as it gets wet it gives off a red or pink dye which also colours the battery compartment.

Thats how they can tell.

here is an example of a water damaged w810i. the red square just above the sim card holder is the moisture indicator. the sticker should be white.

Wow this is new thing for me. However, is it possible for the sticker to turn red without the phone submerged in the water? Especially in humid weather like in south east asia?
