Hi Guys. (to quit long things short go to last reply )

I recentley applied for Carphone Warehouse but after a week I get a letter saying that they wont be processing my application.
Basically what there saying is they have a strict criteria and they make there decisions on:

Education Level
Work History (We look for solid customer - facing experience)
General Attitude in the application (Any Gaps will mean instant regret unfortuantley)

Without any of this you wont be able to apply..

anyways moving on for the other shops 02, T-Mobile are they looking for that in there individuals aswell anyone know?

Im still waiting for Phones4U to get back to me.

I haven't given up just yet but due to the lack of Sales experience i think however this maybe a problem, im just hoping some shops are able to train with the Job

Anyways guys post your attempts at finding a Job/or if you even work for any of the Phone companys please post your advise to the rest of us

Thanks!

Exactly! I've got a mate who is an account manager for Telecom NZ and he started in thier Telemarketing Department doing cold-calling, talking all sorts of crap while upselling to national and international call products.

There seems to be an attitude in sales that they're onto a good thing and they don't want to share it with you... as I found when I tried to go from mechanic to car sales (unsuccessfully).

It's hard to get experience when no-one will take you on without experience...

I can't really say a huge ammount about how to get into the mobile phone retail industry because I got my job when I was 16, mostly by fluke, and I'm still there now lol.

However, I do know that when I've seen my manager etc employ people, there are a few (sometimes obvious) things they look for.

-If you've worked in the industry before, that helps.
-a good general CV always helps, ie at least A-levels but GCSE's dont get overlooked.
-a nice friendly positive attitude, tho if your going for a job in a high-pressure-sales environment like Carphone Whorehouse or the dreaded P4U then they'll look for a slightly more 'stand up for yourself with a backbone' type nature, but I really wouldn't want to work in either of those places, far too high pressure and pushy and snotty.

Can't really think of a huge ammount else at this moment in time, if anything else comes to me I'll put it up here.

My CV is upto date but the only problem I have is my GCSE results,
I was bullied at school and the result was pretty bad.

I don't have any sales experience but I did for oneday have a awful cold selling job to people in there homes so I know abit about that!

are 02 looking for anything like what CPW have sent me above?
ive always wondered why the main majority of staff for them are guys

Well most of our staff are girls lol, so should be no problem for you, tho thats only in my town (we have two shops here).

It's hard for me to say really, it usually down the manger as an individual how they employ people and what they look for, not usually a set of guidelines governed by O2. Another reason why it's nicer to work for than CPW, the great big faceless industry machine that they are lol.

I had a look at 02's website and there careers section,
even found a job at my local branch but the vacancy is only partime.

do you know how many hours this iusually nvolves cause it doesn't say on the description nor does it mention about the wage

Im just intrested in doing something abit different now ive worked far to long on Agencys im not slagging them off or anything cos ive gained alot of experience working for them.

especially in the Automotive departments

However thats over with now,
I want a more exciting career and I just love meeting new people,
which helps doesn't it as you are corrosponding with customers daily giving them advice on products

Thats true, if you like meeting new people and talking to them, then it could be the right role for you, and if you've got the patience of a saint as well I find that helps lol. Or at least the ability to hold it all in until you go out the back and scream for a bit lol!

As for the hours, completely depends on what it is their looking for, most likely around 20 hours but can be anywhere between 6 and 30 really.

This is what Phones4u guy told me, I tried many times to get into mobile retail but failed. I can get other retail jobs but they are boring.
