Im Michael from Philippines, im planning to buy a new laptop. But im confused and cant decide yet. I just wanna know what makes the intel CoreDuo so expensive than the Celeron.
* I noticed that a 1.8Ghz Core Duo is vastly expensive than a 1.8Ghz Celeron.Why?
* Is the Duo clock speed doubled because it dual?
* Does 1.8Ghz mean multiplied by 2 because its Dual?
Please explain ASAP. Thanks folks…..

Hi there...
First of all let me confim that nowadays its not thw clock speed of the processors that matters. Its the architecture, the manufacturing procss amd the L2 cache. Both the processors may "run" at 1.8 GHZ but the latter can process more data at the same speed. Imagine a bus carrying 50 passengers at 100 kmph and now think of a train carrying 1500 passengers at the same speed. What would you choose??
That analogy was the closes i could come accross...
Hope this helps.
Btw, you can find more information about the core 2 duis here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_2
and here:

Celeron is not the best chip in the world. I'd go with the core 2. As the post above, says its not really the speed that matters so much anymore.

It means there are two cores on the single processor chip.

Think of it in terms of cars,
Celeron is a Ford Fiesta
Core 2 Duo is a rally rs200 (awesome)
simple.

OR
Ford get 98bhp from a 1.6l engine
and
Caterham can get 160bhp from a 1.6l engine.

thank you for that information... i thought the name "core duo" was just a gimmick... i think i need a thorough research for this matter.... i really dont know what makes it so expensive... so, if its not measured by clock speed, how can intel convince the costumer that their chip is so fast? basically, processors are measured by clock speed in order to attract customers...

you could in theory say that it is twice as fast, so 3.6 ghz. some benchmark tools show the coreduos in that way.

I have an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor, 1.8ghz per core and that's good. No problems with it and it's super fast!
