This happened to me, and for my situation it was not the sim card. Do you have any personal ringtones saved for anybody? If yes do they work when these people call you? if no, does it ring the default ring you set for anybody who calls? The last question is, do you have any voice commands recorded on your phone for anyone in your contacts? If you answered, yes, no, yes, yes, then the problem is the voice commands themselves, try going through every contact in your phones memory and get rid of any voice commands, restart your phone and see if that solves the problem. I have decided not to use voice commands because every time I put them on the phone it messes with my sim contacts.

Yes, have the same problem from the beginning. I like to have voice dial so I deleted all contacts on sim (after full backup of course!!!) and now it works. It seems that the phone compresses the phone contacts and after a restart most of the time it cannot read from the sim thereby exhibiting this fault. This is a real bid thing and I just don't know why not more or even most of the p990i users have a problem with that.
I did try 3 different Original SE phones, bought from SE ! And also 5 different SIMs from my provider T-Mobile. Always the same crap!

I'll contribute. "It takes forever to delete all contacts". Anyone ever tried?
