after de-branding k800i from 3 mobile to generic a connection icon (little earth next to signal strenth & 3g icon) is not showing in permanance as it used to. it only shows once i activate the browser. is that a normal behaviour?

Yes it is not a bug , the phone don't waste data connection.
The connection work only when you do an action.

yeah, i figured that out. yet just curious why \"3\" branded phone was showing the icon and in \"generic\" version it does not. Still in the same notwork i.e. 3. Another network 3 'invention' ?

That is because with 3 firmware the handset was pretty much connected to internet all the time
