> Vodafone set to launch X-Series rival in summer
Bookmark topic
Vodafone will launch its full-fat mobile Internet proposition in the summer, it said last week. The service will compete with 3’s X-Series package.
Vodafone will open up its ‘walled garden’, which demarcates its live! portal, to allow users to browse the wider Internet on their handsets.
It claimed last week that it has 4.5 million active Vodafone live! customers, and rising. The new service will be made available on all handsets on flat-rate tariffs.
Vodafone chief executive Nick Read said: “With the exception of 3, we significantly lead the rest of the mainstream networks in terms of 3G device penetration. So we have a fantastic base [for the mobile internet], and it is now time to take down the walled garden of live! and really open up its potential.”
Vodafone consumer business director Tim Yates added: “The partnerships we have developed with the likes of YouTube, eBay, Google and MySpace will be an enhancement of this.”

Jeez, they're only doing what people have been tellling them to do for years.
They shouldn't receive any congratulation for that, well not until we see the new data tariffs anyway.

To ensure you get the most out of the mobile internet, we’re introducing a great value new deal.
Pay for the first 0.5MB… and we’ll give you the next 14.5MB for free.
There’s no catch. The first 0.5MB (approximately 20 pages) you use on any given day will cost you up to £1. The next 14.5MB won’t cost you a penny.
Don’t worry if you’re not a heavy user – the new pricing structure works in your favour too. If all you want to do is check the news, or catch the latest football results, you can.
If, in one day, you use less than 0.5 MB, you’ll only be charged for the pages you view. Viewing 5 made-for-mobile news pages, for example, will cost you about 25p.
If you regularly stream video clips and music, or download lots of content, you may use more than 15MB in a day. If you do exceed the daily limit – which really takes some doing – you’ll be charged £2 for every additional MB you use.
Designed for those that want to dip in and out - without worrying about the cost - our web browsing package lets you pay for your internet usage on a monthly subscription - just like you do with your PC at home.
Register your interest in our monthly browsing bundle
Currently, you’re charged £2.35 for each MB. But from June, you’ll only pay £1 for up to 15MB per day. That’s 30 times more pages for the same price.
The £1 per day charge and monthly data subscription cannot be used for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services such as Skype or Peer-to-Peer services (such as instant messenger services, text messaging clients or file sharing). These services will not count towards the £1 per day charge or monthly bundle, and are charged separately at £2 per MB, with a 5p minimum charge for each data session.
You can connect your laptop or PDA to the internet on the £1 per day plan or web browsing bundle. You will, however, use more of your MB allowance using a laptop than a phone. Laptop users should consider our 3G Broadband Mobile Connect card.

You will be charged at £2 per MB (including VAT) on any calendar day for the first 0.5MB of chargeable usage. You will be charged in 1KB steps up to 0.5MB. There will be no further charge for the next 14.5MB you use. If you exceed 15MB, you will be charged at £2 per MB in 1KB steps. The £1 per day charge is inclusive of VAT. The price exclusive of VAT is £0.85.

Ah yes, I read about them
here. Nothing to challenge t-mobile or 3's efforts really.
You will be charged at £2 per MB (including VAT) on any calendar day for the first 0.5MB of chargeable usage.
So if you used just 0.5MB per day for 1 month that would be £30, have I got that right?

Hi all,
Well obviously the announcement above for the new DATA tariffs due to launch in June was met with the derision it deserved and they have suddenly realised after a Year they actually need to do something about it and fast. Although how they can mention 3 and not T-Mobile who started flat fee Internet access is beyond me. Maybe this time they will actually launch a worth while tariff as it's taken them long enough. Although it could well be a case of to little to late as i doubt people have been waiting any longer or will even wait a couple of months more if you want to use Data you don't want to wait you want it now.

@dogmann
It seems to me that Vodafone will be launching these new tariffs as a way of stopping the churn over to t-mobile. They are confusing to say the least, which is probably how they meant them to be.
What with Web n Walk being promoted so heavily at the moment it won't be long before they realise their customers are seeing right through this, then they will have to come up with something better.

Hi Goldenface,
OMG i read it wrong if this statement is actually referring to the Data Tariff's that are launching in June as stated above and in the previous thread re 02 data tariffs. I would advise any one with VodaFone shares to sell them fast as that is just so ridiculous it not true.
Those tariffs whilst being better than the current tariffs don't even get close to T-Mobile's or 3's, remember even IM isn't included and will cost £1.70 per MB these people are just unreal. How could of anyone from PR or Marketing of allowed him to make such an absurd statement based on those tariffs if it wasn't quite so funny it would be truly sad IMHO.
