I just recently lost the headphones that came with my k800 so I was thinking of upgrading to a better pair while I"m at it. I'm looking for something that can block out a decent amount of noise. Also I've noticed (and I don't know if it's a software problem or something to do with the headphones) that although volume is very good when I'm playing music, anything with speech (movies, tv, audiobooks etc) is played at about half the volume and you really have to strain to hear. If it IS to do with the headphnes, could you recommend a pair that would cure this? If not, how can I eliminate the problem?

So,first about the "half volume" : its not about headphones here,its due to the encoding(no normalization) and possibly in movies because there are certain effects and etc. that HAVE to be louder than the speech in order to have effect - the action movies for example have a lot of them.The movie sound represents the world exactly how it sounds - and the speech isn't the loudest thing.
About the headphones - remember not to go extreme if you'll use them with the K800i only,because it has not that good quality of reproduction.A pair up to 50$ is a good deal,I think.For passive noise canceling, you'll have to use IEMs which are slightly more expensive.The Shure e2c are good for that job,other suggestion is to buy the cheapest Etymotic model.Don't go for active noise canceling,because the headphones are bulkier,require batteries,usually have worse transducers than what you can get for the same money,and are pricey.
When you search for headphones look for the sensitivity - db/mW is what you are looking for.More is better,for IEMs - more than 105 is good enough.The resistance is also important,don't forget that.

you sound like a casual listener, mate. so i'd suggest something with good noise blocking, and reasonable sound, something on a budget. a pair of sony EX-51's maybe? in black, they suit your phone with the black and silver detailing.

hmm I had a look at the sony online and it got a lot of bad reviews? saying that outside noise was amplified ... will that make it impossible to listen to, say, an audiobook in a noisy bus?
I also had someone recommend the sennheiser CX 300, which has better reviews but is a fair bit more expensive.

i got myself a pair the New Sony MDR-EX85's - highly recommended!
there a step up from the EX71's in quality and power, as the have a 13mm driver instead of the 9mm driver in the 71's....
CX300 are a good buy too very similar to EX71's again, and of course Shure make great in-ear-phones depending on how much you have to spend and how much of an audiophile you are

For a pair of value-for-money earbuds, try the Koss Plugs. They offer great passive noise-isolation, and sound quality is decent. They're a bit too bassy for me though. And I don't claim to be an audiophile, so don't just take my word for it, go try it for yourself.

They do look good and it appears they have a better cable as well, although i paid just short of £40 for my Shure EC2's from Amazon and must say they really are a lot better than my old 71's. If you don't mind me asking what did they cost? and do the come with the short cable attachment like the 71's.

They're not out in the UK yet but you can get them on ebay for around £30-40 last time i looked.
they're not the 'SL' (Short lead) version no, but no i use them with my N95 which has a 3.5mm jack anyway.
i have tested them with a Sony 20Gb walkman, N95, and W900i so far and they sound great. and they fit better as they are angled slightly.

I support Dogmann's opinion.e2c's are the best you can get for the money,great sound for this price.Shures are most famous with their excellent noise-canceling and quality,so thats what you are looking for.
