> M600i on Orange - I'm fed up
Bookmark topic
Hi,
After badgering Orange to get a free M600i while signing a new 18 month contract I am seriously done with this phone and Orange.
Some of the other problems I'm having are:
- Speaker pops all the time
- Phone crashes a lot
- Slow as hell to use anything, slow menus
- Volume is terrible I can't hear it ringing sometimes even on the loudest setting
- The alarm ring is loud for the first few seconds it then cuts the volume considerably, sometimes not waking me up at all
- Backlight dims constantly while reading emails or messages
- Can't see anything when using it outside
- Having to keep using the stylus to do simple tasks such as selecting items, why?
- Phone is crippled with terrible Orange CDA
This culminated this morning with the 7am alarm going off all the way into work every 2-3 minutes and having to cancel the popup twice every time.
I'm just so annoyed. After trying to contact Orange they sent me a typical email template, after complaining and saying can someone contact me they sent me another generic email template advising me to take out their Emergency Care coverage arrgghh.
Can anyone advise me on where I stand because as far as I'm concerned the phone is not fit for the purpose it was sold. What chance do I have of getting a new phone say a Nokia N95 or a new SE that actually works?
Any idea anyone? Orange are absolutely useless with their customer service.

have you tried the kulankendi debranding client or something yet? debranding is the only option you have i believe.. it'll get rid of all the orange branding and make your phone a generic m600i which you can update normally through SEUS for firmware upgrades... search the forums. i'm sure you'll find something for your problem.

Aside from battling Orange for a new phone (either a generic M600i or a different model altogether) Kulankendi is your best hope. Debranded and updated with generic software the M600i really is a great phone.
Admittedly some things won't change - for instance, the screen will still be weak in full sunlight (because of the touchscreen), and some people do find the alarms too quiet - but it will at least be stable, reliable, fast, and probably easier to use (depending how bad the Orange branding is - I had the Vodafone version originally, and that was very poor compared to the proper menu system).
As far as using the stylus to "select" things go, you do know that the buttons on the bottom line of the screen are meant to be used as "soft keys" - ie, you press them with your finger? I know not everyone's happy doing this, but it does become second nature after a while once you let yourself go. You can also press the default (middle) button just by clicking the scroll wheel.

Hiya,
I do like the phone just to clarify it's just it's riddled with bugs and is slightly embarassing with your 7am alarm going off all the way into work every couple of minutes.
I am gonna head off to kingmobilephone.co.uk tonight and get it debranded and see if that helps.
I use the soft keys a lot it's more when I'm going through the menus using the scroll and there are multiple tick boxes I'm surprised you can't use the 0/Space key to tick stuff etc?
Also does anyone know if I actually would have a case with Orange seeing as technically the phone is not working as it was sold - so wondering if I have any clout in that respect?
I just really, really can't explain how many problems I have had with Orancge customer service, they really are the most horrible company I have dealt with

There are two ways of dealing with this matter
1. Keep on at orange, you will most likley achive little other than end up frustrated and angry.
2. Bite the bullet and spend around £35 sending the phone to a professional reflashing business I recomend SEunlock have the thing reflashed and unlocked, I have had both my P990i & W950i done by them it transformed both devices so I can recomend them 100%
SEunlock will put a generic firmware on your phone this means that you will be able to take advantage of all the latest updates from SEUS
I investigated almost all other solutions and found them a bit lacking and some seemed to be almost a "black art"
I have just taken out a sim only contract with Web & Walk from T-Mobile for my W950i (thanks for the tip Masseur!) and after 10 years with Vodafone I am stunned at how good their customer service is, as soon as I am out of commitment with Vodafone I will be moving my main account over to T-Mobile, I have worked out I can save over £35 a month straight off on a like for like deal!

As with anything you buy you are protected by
the Sale of Goods Act 1979 under which traders must sell goods that are as described and of satisfactory quality.
If consumers discover that products do not meet these requirements they can reject them and ask for their money back providing they do so quickly. Alternatively, they can request a repair or replacement or claim compensation. The Sale of Goods Act has been amended by the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002.
So assuming you can demonstrate that the phone is unable to perform the functions it is advertised as providing, I think you have a good case against orange BUT check with a qualified legal professional many offer fixed fee consultations or have a chat with your local CAB Citizens Advice Bureau

Right have had the phone debranded and flashed with the latest firmware last night and wow, utter shock it's like using a completely different phone
I can't explain how much of a pleasure it is to have a phone without all Orange's rubbish everywhere. It's fast, the icons are loads better and the volume is definitely louder - most off all I can now use themes with my full screen wallpaper
Very very pleased and can't recommend it enough.
Why do Orange cripple the phones so much is madness?
