> W850i earphone error

Bought a w850i phone from ebay but found it had a faulty earphone. Bought a new flex cable and fitted it fine. Went into the service menu and tested it, all ok. Used for about 24 hours then it stopped working again. When i try service test now it works sometimes, and doesn't others. If i press down near then top right hand side of the joystick type area if seems to work fine. Could this be some sort of short circuit?
Any ideas please
