I'm curious to know if anyone has spliced the DCU-60 usb cable, or has a schematic of it.

I'm interested in removing the USB end and splicing the audio to my car stereo and the power to a hot lead under the dash. I'm aware that I'll have to arrange some electronics to get the proper voltage (4 or 4.5V IIRC) to the w810 as I've done the "Battery charger out of 9 volt battery and Altoids tin" build: don't have a link, but it worked quite well.

The reason that I'm not just using the MMC-60 is that I my Audi factory head unit doesn't have RCAs and I can either spend 70 on an adapter and 20 on the MMC-60 or splice into the CD changer input with the DCU-60 I already have an extra one of. and since i'll be splicing anyway, .....

Any problems such as sound quality that anyone can think of?

Why not get the MMC-60, and this item? It'll let you keep your CD changer while adding AUX-input.

well, i don't use my cd changer, and i'd save $60 for that and $20 on the MMC-60 if i can use the DCu-60. Also, I'm hoping the dcu-splice connection will provide my phone with a charge. I read that you got some hissing with the cla-60, so it'd probably happen for me too if I can get the dcu-60 option working. Also, I like to build things and find work-arounds, so it'll be cool if I can get it to work.

However, there is a good chance that I'll end up having to do just that because I'm guessing that I can't just splice the dcu-60 as easily as I think I can. I was hoping that someone has tried hacking into the dcu-60 already, but doesn't look like it so far.

My CLA-60 hissing may be due to a noisy/bad ground, I don't know nor do I have time to investigate. I keep it unplugged unless the phone battery is nearly at zero.

If you don't use your CD changer at all, you can get something that takes up that port entirely - lots of choices here.

yeah, chances are that i'll just end up buying that stuff, but i like trying to find work arounds, especially if they are free.
