I seem to be having an issue with my P990i with regard to charging: if I put the phone on charge without switching it off and then switch it off with the charger is still connected, it won't restart even when I unplug the charger - all I get is the Orange logo which comes on when the phone is off and on charge and the power-on switch is unresponsive. I end up having to take out the battery to get it to start up again. If I have the phone off when I connect the charger and don't start it up until the charger is disconnected, I don't have this problem.
I know the answer is not to switch it off with the charger connected but why should it be a problem if I do? Any suggestions?

The answer is to reflash your phone with SEUS and everything will go well.
