I just installed a bluetooth ULF in my Range Rover (bought from the excellent Bimmernav.com crew), and the P990i works perfectly with it -- pairs right up and transfers the phone book. Fantastic sound quality (I guess due to DSP?) -- people don't know I'm on a hands free at all.
I'm tickled to death with it, but there's one little problem: My phonebook contains my entire Outlook contact list, a couple thousand phone numbers.
The BMW user interface is useless with this quantity of phone numbers -- you can't search, you can just scroll though them endlessly.
So my idea is to create a new Contacts folder on the phone ("contactsfull"), synchronize THAT with Outlook, then selectively transfer contacts out of that into the main P990i Contacts folder which will then synch with the car.
Creating a sub-folder on the phone and transferring contacts is straightforward. So far so good. But the Sony Ericsson PC Suite does not allow synchronization with a subfolder on the phone! Even though it allows me to choose any subfolder within Outlook.
What to do? I could of course create the shorter contacts list in a subfolder on Outlook and synch with that, but then I would not have my full contact list with me on the phone. I don't want that.
Anybody know whether there is any other way (maybe a different synchronization program?) to synch Outlook contacts folders to SUBFOLDERS in the phone?
Or better yet, to synch MULTIPLE contacts folders?

Um...There is a way to do this but then keeping things synched with Outlook will be a pain.
Let us say you have 4 folders in OL that you want to synch.
1. Backup all contacts on phone - just in case!
2. Delete all phone contact.
3. Synch folder 1 only
4. Create a subfolder on phone and transfer all contacts there.
5. repeat for the other folders.
But as I said, keeping them in synch could be a pain.
Cheers

Ummm -- but . . . I still don't see any way to synch different folders on the phone.
The PC Suite software will let you choose sub-folders in Outlook, but it won't let you choose sub-folders on the phone. It only synchs the default Contacts folder, the very same one the BMW ULF synchs to.
That's the problem.
It seems to me that the only possible solutions are:
1. Some trick with PC Suite which I don't know about -- allowing me to choose a subfolder on the phone to synch with Outlook.
2. Some alternative commercial software which will manage the synchronization, with more features than PC Suite.
3. Somehow block (?) synchronization between the P990i and the car. Put contacts I want in the car system on a different phone. Synch that phone with the car and leave it at that.
Anybody have any ideas?
???
