Sold a phone on here the other day to another member, took it to the post office, paid for it to be sent by Special Delivery.

All sorted i thought, tuesday comes and goes and no parcel so the buyer contacts me and i call Royal Mail, they inform me that they havent attempted to deliver the parcel and that it has been sent to their national returns centre to be sent back to me and the only reason they can think that this would happen is because the address label had fallen off.

It then gets worse, when i asked when my parcel is going to be returned they apparently cant tell me and it could take upto 2 weeks and on top of this, because i didnt take out Consequential Loss insurance they i had never heard of, seen advertised or been asked if i wanted to take out, the only compensation i can get is the original fee i paid, even though the phone is technically missing, ive had to refuind the buyer and am in limbo.

Absolutely fooking unbeleivable!

...same here (Ireland)... That's what happens when you privatise public services... "who gives a f*ck attitude" alround!!! Posted something to an esato member in london months ago - his address is on the box, my address is on the box (neither has "fallen off", they confirmed...)... The box is still sitting in the middle of the country... Worst is: I get stuff sent from Germany, and because they "know" the irish mail, they use expensive couriers, but because of weird dealings between those private corps. once the express courier item reaches my part of Ireland it's handed over to the f*cking post again who then send it the other way for postal sorting....etc etc... And then those privatised "postal services" b*tch about competition from private companies...

Tell me about it.

They are now sending me the phone back but will only refund me the amount i originally paid to send it and no compensation as i didnt take out the Consequential Loss insurance even though it wasnt advertised and i wasnt told about it so im taking this further.

They legally cant expect you to know about a service that is not advertised and not offered and then refuse to pay compensation based on this.

Trading standards, Citezons advice bureau and my solicters will be very busy.

A few months ago I sent a ticket to see The Killers by recorded delivery as according to what they say it is insured for upto £34 and the ticket was worth £30.

It was lost in the post so I started the claim with them. After about a month they rejected my claim saying it wasn't insured because it was an item of value!! This was despite sending in everything they wanted, proof of postage and proof of value etc. etc.

After a number of complaints the best I got was a book of 12 1st class stamps as a 'good will gesture' so basically not only did the person not get to see The Killers but I lost £30. Thanks royal mail!!

I once got a guy at work to post a S65 Phone for me..

I told him get it done by Recorded delivery,
he done so so he said.. anyways a few days later the guy I sold it to was saying it hadn't come

I checked with the guy at work and he said he had then he said he lost the reciept I wasn't happy but i refunded the buyer then the guy at work gave me back the £50 lol

I was pretty lucky!

From this day I don't rely on anyone to post something of value for me cos there un-reliable and cost you alot of worry, and money!

Well i spoke to Royal Mail yesterday and they are returning the phone back to me but still cant tell me why it wasnt even attempted to be delivered, apparently there will be a label on it telling me so im looking forward to that. When i asked when it would be with me they told me it was coming by Special Delivery and assured me it would be with me soon, i had to laugh!

And im still speaking to my soliciter but its looking promising in regards to claiming compensation from them.

Effectively what theyve done is illegal, by not giving me anychance to take out the Consequential insurance by not advertising it, informing me of it or making me aware in any way shape or form then they arent allowed to use that as a basis to refuse me compensation but im just double checking before i go back to them.
