I'm getting a replacement W810 under warranty. Besides a camera AF problem, the MSDP cover was bent and coming loose!

I want to keep my (new) W810 for a long, long time. How do I open & close the MSDP cover without bending or breaking it over time? (This happens with some frequency, to change music and transfer photos.) The thing is, it's a stiff piece of rubbery plastic that takes a bit of effort to open. I don't see how you can open it without bending it...

over time it gets soft, but without breaking. It's pretty tuff, you don't have to worry too much that it will break.

I had the same concern with my K750 (which incidently has a W810 middle chasis, so I have exactly the same memory card cover), but it doesn't even look like breaking after two years.

nope. But like I said, it's pretty tough. It should be a while before it get's so bent that it no longer fits nicely. Mine's never got that bad, it's still fits flush without sticking out or flopping about, though I use cable for song transfer unless I'm copying back my whole gig mem card after a format or similar.

I probably open the cover about 2-3 times a week.

Mines still fine aswell after a 1year.... I also take it out a lot as I use a memory card reader instead of th USB-cable....

As I posted elsewhere, I despise the USB cable for its slow speeds and scary phone reboots.

Is there some trick to the MSDP cover? The problem is, the little ridge by which to pull it out is in the center, but the tabs that lock it to the phone are on the sides. So as you're opening it, it bends like hell in the middle before the tabs on the sides finally release. After almost a year of this, the cover was bulging quite a bit in the center

I 100% agree with you about the speed of usb (normal for most phones, but way slower than USB2.0 should be)

However it's also a lot of stuffing around with the memcard, plus the extra wear and tear. I try to look aftrer my memcard by removing it as little as possible. For a couple of songs, I just think ahead so I'm not copying the song when I'm in a rush to get out the door.

Plus I don't have issues with phone restarts (never had a cable related restart).

I find that it's important to use the device eject function on the PC before disconnecting the cable - if I don't it often won't detect the phone when I reconnect the cable, unless I restart the computer first.

Re: the memcard cover, I always use as little force as necessary to open it, but I think the reason mine is still in good nick I keep it in a tight neurophene case (body glove) that keeps the cover flush with the casing, therefore compensating for the bending that opening it causes.

If the cover is already bent (and elongated), cut approx 0,2...0,3 mm from both round ends with a sharp razor blade.
needs sure hands and it will be like new.
