Kurt Hellstrom, CEO of Ericsson, says that are hoping for 10% market share by the end of 2003.

By contrast, Nokia currently have around 37% and are aiming for 40% by the end of 2002. Motorola have about 14% and Samsung around 11%.

To me, this signals the end of as a big player in the mobile industry.

Earlier in the year, someone from Ericsson (maybe Hellstrom, I can't remember) said that if don't gain market share in the next 2 quarters, Ericsson would not put any more money into the venture.
They must have realised now that this is a game they can't win.

Hopefully this will mean they can concentrate on 2 or 3 exceptional high-end handsets a year, tailored to network operators (high) specifications..

if they cancel the partnership i think Ericsson will continue to be a major player in the telecom industry. sony i guess will concentrate on their other ventures.

From the statement it doesn't look like the partnership will be cancelled, just a change of direction as they realise they are no longer big boys. they currently have about 5% and they are saying they want to double it by next year, which could easily be achieved.
Maybe they are being cautious, or maybe they are not optimistic about their handset portfolio for 2003.

i think will have a good Q4 of this year, here in belgium and europe there handsets are selling good. the T200 beat the 3310 in belgium and holland and that in only a few mounts. T600 selling good, T68 costs now 450 € (contract free). R600 were sold out after a price drop to 150€. i don't know how they are selling in asia and america but here there doing very good.

i think LG has got 60€ more shipment because the deliver there phones in more countrys now.

10% is reachable for SE
40% will be hard for Nokia - keeping No 1 position is always hard and service providers are increasing their own branding.
