Would there be a definitive way just by looking at the firmware version to tell what country a handset is meant to be sold in?

i.e how would you know Europe_2 is a German handset?

Hello Toney_Ericsson,

The usual IMEI analysis sites such as this one: http://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis&sub=imeinr
just tell us the continent where a handset is meant to be sold. Maybe the Reporting Body Identifier (the first two digits in the IMEI code) gives sone further indication of the country. In my case it's Europe and the British Approvals Board of Telecommunications (BABT), which I suppose shows that its primary market is Britain.

As for the ways of extracting country information from the firmware version, it would be really useful if it were possible.

Cheers.

Mine says

Reporting Body British Approvals Board of Telecommunications (BABT)
Primary Market Europe

Although I know for a fact it's a German handset I have hear as this K800i will not update to the latest UK firmware version (eXpansys mark sim free handsets up as UK version but they are actually not, their cheap sourced european handsets meant for other countries).

Is their any other way to tell?

@Toney_Ericsson,

I have no idea, but having in mind what your IMEI indicates, we can maybe assume that BABT is the authority for the entire Europe regardless of where phones are actually meant to be sold.

Cheers.

I see.

I've pm'd mwarner about this as hes the one who told me my sim free Sony Ericsson K800i was German and he was right.

I'm unable to update it to the latest UK firmware as it's not a UK handset.

It was marked up and still is on eXpansys as a UK version like most are but they are not UK versions as I have found out.

eXpansys should'nt actually be doing that as it is false advertising, wonder what I can do about it if anything. Think I shall make a complaint to trading standards.
