While Apple's iPhone is set to hit the US market in two months, Sony Ericsson have said they are not worried about potential lost sales and they welcome their new competitor.

Mats Lindoff, Sony Ericsson's CTO commented that if there are only five brands in the worldwide handset market, the market will be too monotone. He highlighted that the company already stands firm in the Walkman handset market and most of Sony Ericsson's high-end handsets support 3G services. The fact that Apple's iPhone is not able to support 3G will become a disadvantage for the company, Lindoff pointed out. source:digitimes

I believe everyone should welcome the iPhone to the market, its good for innovation and good for consumers.

However, while I agree with Nokia and Sony Ericsson when they say they are not particularly worried about the iPhone, they think they SHOULD start worrying about the 2nd and 3rd Generation iPhones which will build on the strengths and cast off the weaknesses of the original model.

well the first iPod wasnt that good, but there marketing approach is stunning and made a powerful brand.

on the other hand loads of people have spend a lot on there ipod and have put all there music on it, why would they need an ipod and an iphone?

i wonder if the battery life on the iphone will be as bad as the ipods battery life

I think Apple is going to be big....real big. If only 10% of the Ipod users get the phone it's going to make Apple a major player in certain markets (especially the USA). And this is just their first phone.

has phones a all different price points - from £50 right through to the most expensive the W950i, so unless the iPhone can compete right through the range then there is no great threat yet.

What is the estimated retail price of it atm? And it certainly won't be free with 12 month contracts.
