Hi, this looks like a really helpful forum. Glad I found it.
Recently upgraded my phone after years when my old basic nokia died.
Went for w880i based on the Walkman/size. Still getting used to keypad + the mass of functions available but generally very happy with the phone.
One thing really bugging me is how the screen keeps going blank after such a short period of time. I know this is done to ease battery life but surely the user should be able to choose length of time before it kicks in or if to activate it or not. Particularly frustrating when I have my phone hooked up to the new MRC-60 audio out music charger unit.
Basically I simply want to at certain times keep the screen visible. Hopefully there is something very obvious i'm missing. Please can any of you friendly folk help me out.

Well I think I can answer my own question. IT CANT BE DONE.
Finally got a human on the Sony Ericsson helpline, you know the one that ironically plays 'I knew you were waiting' whilst it keeps you waiting for ages!! Bloke confirmed its the default and cannot be changed and that its standard on all new Sony handsets. Time lengths might vary but they all supposedly power down as default with no option to change. This is my first Sony and I have to say not at all impressed with this aspect. The stupid thing kicks in after less than 5 seconds and you have to tap a key to bring it up again. It even kicks in whilst its in charging mode and as stated previously when connected to the mrc-60 which has a simultaneous charger. It makes using the remote a complete lottery cos you cant see the bloody playlist/song on the screen. So you need to go over to the phone and tap a key to bring the screen to life again!!!
Now I understand that this is a great way to make battery life longer and of course make the great new multifunction phones smaller, my issue is that they should be designed so the default quick power down CAN occasionally be overiden.
I cant believe that everyone with a Sony handset doesnt find this auto power down a pain. Are you all suffering in silence or is there an easy workaround that you use. Any advice appreciated cos its driving me nuts.

yeah happen to K800 and all newer phones too. this does not happen in W800 W810 and all older phone, i just like the W800 screen shut off in quite long period of time. but se decided to make it faster in K800... no idea... i also think it cant be done...

W810 screen also powers down in a few seconds, i'm not really irritated by it, but i can understand your annoyance. Don't torment yourself over such things, just tap the damn thing when you need to see it..!
