I've been playing with an Orange SPV for a week (the microsoft smartphone), and what really turns me off this phone is the fact that you can only install Microsoft/Orange approved software onto it. If you try to install anything else, for example iPaq software, it says: 'application unsigned', and it won't install. Officially this is to prevent virusses to spread through the mobile phone network. But commercially it means that Orange/MS can decide to approve only software from which they earn a share (to get software approved alone costs 600 dollar for the developer). Question: does the P800 have such a system, or is any application allowed to run?

Good question! My guess is that as long as the software is written in symbian c++ or java anything goes. Symbian is way better than m$ imo! This post was posted from a Nokia 7650

BTW are you sure there will be enough SW for Symbian 7.0 OS in moment of introduction of P800 on market ? Is this platform enough attractive for developers ? Will be there enough devices based on Symbian 7.0 OS ? This post was posted from a T68i

Thats not good to hear...I had decided that the SPV was to be my next phone..but limiting software installs to only approved apps has just put pay to that... looks like ill wait for the reviews of the p800 now

I'd guess the screens are different resolution and they probably have different processors. How about programs in java, they are supposed to be platform independent
