I'm due a new contract with Orange.

However for a number of reasons I'm considering switching to a new operator. Orange don't seem to be what they were. Moreover I HATE the crappy branding on the phones. (I mean the logos, not the firmware, although that's awful too).

The main reasons that keep me tied to Orange are;

- I have an old Orange World WAP bundle from pre-history when WAP was a big deal. As a result I have unlimited browsing if I connect by GPRS WAP, unrestricted by a fair-use policy. I frequently use 150Mb for £4.00.

- the no questions asked, sight unseen warranty replacement.

Therefore I have a number of questions.

1. Which operators are considered to have the best customer service?

2. Which operators don't have crappy logos on the phone. Are there operators whose firmware is better than others?

3. Is it true that if I upgrade my Orange contract via the Carphone Warehouse I can ask for a phone without logos, yet keep all my other benefits?

4. Do any other operators offer the same easy warranty/insurance replacement as Orange? - i.e essentially "my phone's playing up", "Oh, i'm sorry sir. let me run through a few diagnostic questions...OK, we'll send out a replacement to you by courier".

And finally;

As you know, if your operator thinks you are going to leave, they will negotiate a better deal more often than not.

However does anyone have experience of negotiating a better deal with a NEW operator than the ones they routinely offer for new contracts? I'd like to ask them if they will match my current Orange World unlimited WAP deal. (Yes I know WAP is an inferior service, but at that price it's a steal).

If so who do I ask to speak to? In my experience if you're not an existing customer, it can tough to get through to anyone very useful at the main customer service number. Woul;d high street branches be worth a visit?Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
