Been griping about this since I got my P990 but after lots of reading through various forums have now come up with some useful hints on battery life extension. Please feel free to add but please try and keep it to legitimate proven tweaks - ie where there has been a measureable increase in battery life.
Switch off 3g
Ensure that "CS" is selected - go to internet accounts and in options choose CS only. This forces the phone into the older "connect to data only when asked" mode.
Disable all "always on" data services - ie activesync/blackberry connect/imap idle email.

Disable bluetooth, loudspeaker and the screen...
.. and you will have long battery life on the brick in your pocket.

Well, regarding the P990i, don't install too many applications that run permanently in the background. Ok, there aren't too many for the 990 at the moment but there may be in the furure!
Also, keep an eye on task manager. Having lots of things open uses more power than if you shut everything down whilst you're not using them.
Turn the screen brightness down as far as you can without having to squint! I find 60% is fine for me.
Oh yes, and try not to let the camara lens cover come open by itself whilst the phone is in your pocket, starting the battery-zapping camara app!

Hi all
OK i really don't get this you get what is meant to be a connected smart phone and then disable all it's functionality. Why did you get a smart phone in the first place if you can't or don't use it's functions it just seems a bit pointless.
Either buy the new more powerful battery when it comes out or carry a spare or just get a smaller phone that doesn't have all the functions you are not using otherwise it just makes no sense IMO.

The idea is to switch off things that you don't use all of the time. After all, you can easily create shortcuts to BT, WiFi and applications, allowing you to switch them on only when you need them. You don't ruin the functionality of your phone. Why have BT active if your not using a headset or transferring files / syncing?
Some people need all of the functionality of a smartphone but also need to keep the battery alive as long as possible, maybe because of traveling, long meetings etc. so sometimes you need to use a bit of smart phone management!
Also, some of us are a bit geeky and like to find out absolutely EVERYTHING about our toys, including how to make them work their a*s off for hours on end without giving up

Just tried out that ideea with CS regarding interent accounts, out of curiosity. It detached the gprs on my M600, so it`s not even a real tip if i wanted to use it.
Later Edit: On second thought, i will try this one tomorow for the whole day, and see if there is some real effect, and how it affects the overall flow usage of the phone.
Since it`s not looking up the gprs signal, it does save some juice. It`s just how much i wanna find out.

Have to say that I have found that this depends on the amount of gprs data vs times you connect. If you use manual email downloads and no web browsing, this is a real battery extender - especially on the p990 . This was the default mode that my p910 ran in, and it would last a couple of days with very heavy usage ie 5-6 hours calls , emails, smartphone. Finally my p990 is starting to catch up - when the extending battery comes out methinks I'll be back on level footing. Progress , ain't it grand !

I have to say that I put the light to 50% and it still looks great butI can't squeeze out of it more than a day of standy-by. It's true I use all the time on call, and when not talking to it, I am surfing the web, reading feeds and emails, etc. It's ok, I have an office job so I have the charger pluged in PLUS car charger which helps great!
