3G HSDPA is already available in a lot of countries, yet SE hasn't announced any model that supports this technology. Data transfer speed is the essence of today's lifestyle and how could SE miss this opportunity to provide its loyal customers with the best and the latest they can offer? If you ask me, SE has been very near sighted lately and not being ahead of the game usually signals a downfall. I'm not just talking about 3G, but camera pixels and GPS (sure, u may think they're not important features now but no one thought we'd depend so much on our phone cameras 5 years ago)-they're not thinking ahead anymore and sticking to their successful formula (walkman/cybershot phones) which is getting quite old. I'm just afraid they'd start losing their market share real soon, because the technology gap is really growing between SE and its competitors and soon it'll be too far to bridge. What are your thoughts on this?

Your a little bit behind the times as SE has the Z750i:
Stay up to speed with the stylish Z750 – Sony Ericsson’s first HSDPA phone

Yes, but like I said, it's not just the HSDPA thing, and don't you think it would matter so much more if they applied it on business oriented smartphones like the P1. How hard would it be to do that, that's the near sightedness I was refering to, the kind of lack of vision they can't afford as the competition gets stiffer while they're trying to recover their image from their initial P990 ordeal.

I was only responding to you saying didnt have any HSDPA phones (especially as you called the thread HSDPA).
I do agree with your centiments, it is being discussed in several other threads as well. I think seems to have been caught napping.
If they dont get more HSDPA phones (especially neede on phones like the P1i) and better camera phones then they will start to see a small dicline in sales. Most of their recent phones all seem to have very similar specifications. How many 2mp phones do they need, even after their 3.2mp phones are now a year old (including K810i as it is basically the same phone as the K800i).

On the subject of HSDPA after my short stint with an N95 I couldn't find any info about O2's offering of it.

Does anyone know of anywhere that shows HSDPA signal coverage for different networks?

Thanks

My TYTN doesnt show any difference between normal 3G and HSDPA. The only way I know HSDPA is working is because I have run speed tests and got about 500KBs, about twice as fast as normal 3g

You lot are sooo right. Every new phone that SE have out is so predictable. I dont even have to look at the camera spec, I just know it will be 2mp. The mid ends they sould make, should have 3mp and there dedicated cyber shots should at least have 4mp. Also the walkman phones deserve 3mp, not 2 all the time! 3 years ago the breakthrough k750 came out boasting a 2mp cam, and there new so called high ends still have 2mp while nokia have 5mp! Come on! What is diffrent about the 3 yr old w800 and w850? Only 3g! And overall the aging w800 still boasts the better cam! Its like someone swapping a £10 note for a £5 note!

yeah well we have endless threads on that topic so lets not take this thread down that road again

talking specifically about hsdpa, I wonder how many really need/use that extra speed? I've had HSDPA since mid last year but can honestly say the only time I've really needed it is via my laptop

the little streaming I have done has generally been pretty good good when streaming content designed for the mobile phone screen resolutions where bandwidth does not need to be excessive

perhaps when we have VGA+ screens watching movies over 3G then it might become an important feature
