The Carphone Warehouse has snatched the first allocation of a new luxury Nokia handset, grabbing a de facto exclusive on the much-hyped phone.

The handset, known as the 8600, has been the subject of online speculation for some time, and has been referred to as the Nokia Luna.

The device appeared briefly on Carphone's 'coming soon' web pages, but has since been removed. However, Mobile has learned that the phone could be in store as soon as this weekend. It is believed to have a two-megapixel camera and Bluetooth.

While a Nokia spokesman declined to comment on any 'unreleased product', he restated Nokia's position that it didn't offer exclusivity to retailers.

Nokia has previously acknowledged that a large order could mean one retailer would end up with a handset first by taking all available units.
