Got stopped by the police earlier today for cycling on a pavement(in order to miss out a red light).
Do you stick to the highway code, never, sometimes or always (be honest!)

On a Bicycle? Never!
I've been knocked off my bike twice in recent years by inconsiderate motorists; one ran in to the back of me at traffic lights and the other one did exactly the same thing only this time it was at a junction as I was turning right.
I got away with cuts and bruises, luckily, but my rather nice Marin bike sustained multiple injuries on both occasions resulting in a hefty depletion of my already meagre bank balance
So now I ride on the pavement at busy junctions and along busy roads. I haven't been stopped yet but when I do, the Copper will get such a mouthfull that I'll probably get locked up for assaulting a police officer rather than breaking traffic laws

ermmm..
I try to.. but like cyco, I've been knocked off 3 times, been T boned once, and twice has people clip my rear wheel turning left into a junction.
Cycling is a dangerous business in this day and age. There needs to be more cycle paths on the roads.
Also small point, it is actually illegal to ride on the pavement
The only law i generally flout is speeding, on my bike I don't give a tinkers cuss what speed I'm doing.
i hope you all know it's also illegal to have a flashing LED light without having a solid light too? some picky cops will pick you up on it!

When on my bike I do my best to obey the highway code.
It really annoys me to see cyclists ride through red lights (I nearly got hit by a cyclist last week who didnt stop at a red light ata pedestrian crossing, only reason I diddnt was cos a jumped out of the way).
As both a car driver and a cyclist I can see both sides of the story and ralise that cyclists are at risk from stupid car drivers but at the same time there are a lot of cyclists who just dont care about breaking the highway code.
In bournemouth there was abit in the local paper a couple of months back about the police fining people who were riding through the pedestrianised part of town. People were saying it is stupid that the police fine these people but personally I think they should be fined. If a cyclist hits an person at even 15 mph they can eaily hurt them quite badly.

where I live the local bikeways always have people walking on them. No one is doing anything about it, so the cyclists don't care either and have started riding on the footpaths just to get out of the way of pedestrians walking on the bike paths.
I agree pedestrians can get hit pretty bad. It's extremely frustrating (not to mention dangerous for all concenred) to be riding down a 20Km/h bike path at the speed limit, only to come around a blind corner to find two pedestrians stopped to chat in the middle of the bike path with their three kids running around their feet.
This is the sort of thing we are having to put up with and authorities aren't fining anyone. Pedestrians ought to be fined for using bike paths as simple as that. It's not nice for anyone to be hit at 20Km/h, either the pedestrian OR the bike rider.
