Does anyone know a way to turn P990i on without a sim card inside? A phone like this should be able to do so... even my nokia 6680 does... I've already tried to enable that flight mode menu when you turn the phone on but it does't work that way either...

Well, yes I could... but when having a sim inside I'll have mine. My problem was something like this:

I was on a plane and wanted to turn the phone on to play some games and I couldn't... in order to put phone in flight mode you have to turn it on first. Well, I could have that menu when turning the phone on, but it's unusable in the day by day, I guess...

My point is: this is much more than a phone, being able to sending/receiving calls/messages is only one feature, the p990 shouln´t be dependent on that.

when you turn it on, it doesnt activate the wireless modules until you choose turn on phone. so you can select flight mode at boot and not be breaking any rules.

as he said... he doesn't have that option set on (for the prompting at boot) which is why he's asking if its possible to do without sim card, which it isn't

my N95 starts in offline mode automatically if I don't have a sim card in it, then if I put a sim card in and restart I get a prompt asking if I want to continue in offline mode or not, which I think is good!

Yes Masseur, all BB5 S60 Nokias work this way, even 6630(the first BB5, also only S60 v.2)!

However, it IS a shame have not yet implemented a similar feature in UIQ phones, as is the fact that their non-smartphone's 'flight mode' actually requires you to turn the phone off before you can activate it from an operating phone! No other manufacturer requires this extra step....

I've found myself in the same boat with this. Disabled the prompt, and then found myself with an off phone which I can't get into flight mode without turning the "radio side" on first

whats wrong with using the prompt you get by pushing and holding the power button:

"Turn Off"
or "Flight Mode"

at least, thats what i use on my m600 to switch to flight mode. you don't have to remove the SIM either. out of interest why do you need to remove the sim card just to go on a plane?

Sounds like a silly comment from me but if you could switch on a phone in flight mode without a sim wouldnt that be encourage kids to steal those phones more as they can still use its mediaplayer etc even if the phone itself gets blocked off all networks ?
