I've got me some new number plates on order..
the old school black and silver ones..
this this:
only thing is my car is an 05 plate and i know these plates are for pre 73 cars...
I'm putting em on my car as they will look the biz...
do you know what the Po-leece will say if i get pulled over?
is there a law against such things?
all i can see online is a problem with amending letters to look like others, like people that have a B but make it look like an 0 and etc etc...
can't find anything out about my question?
any ideas?
cheers

I'm not sure but I think there is something against not having a reflective background, I'll do some digging now.................

Don't think you'll get away with it as like you said the car is post 1973!
you could try it and plead ignorance an they'll probably ask you to change them first off.................
This is what I found.......
Rules for the display of number plates are set out in law, briefly these are: -
* A number plate must be displayed at the front and rear of motor vehicles (with some exceptions).
* Number Plates must be easy to read and meet the British Standard.
* Lettering should be black on a white plate at the front and a yellow at the rear.
* The background surface should be reflex-reflecting but the characters must not.
* There are separate requirements for traditional number plates displayed on vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973.
* Lettering and spacing must be of a set size. They must conform to one of the groups shown at:- Number plates fitted after 1 September 2001 or Number plates fitted before 1 September 2001.

hmmmmmm...
ignorance is bliss..
will keep the old plates too though...
if it's not allowed i wonder what the fine is...
if it's only like a £30 fine I'll keep em on!!
EDIT: just found...
NUMBER PLATES FITTED AFTER 1 SEPTEMBER 2001
Number plates fitted after 1 September 2001 must display characters that meet the dimensions shown below.
Characters
Height 79mm
Width (except the figure 1 or letter l) 50mm
Stroke 14mm
Space between characters 11mm
Space between groups 33mm
Top, bottom and side margins (minimum) 11mm
Space between vertical lines 19mm
my plates will be all that!?
