(Yay I finally put it on after hardwork of placing the battery cover on with the strap in place!! Ooops....came off again....)
Who else here thinks the wrist strap couldve been a great addition but was nothing but a pointless, easy to come off piece of shoelace?

You sure you're getting it correctly fixed? It should be locked on the hook by the battery. With the battery (not just the cover) in place, it's impossible for it to fall off (if it's correctly put in place). At least that's the case for my unit. Check the manual for correct placement instructions.
