As the title says, did anyone ever use pagers before mobiles arrived? I used to have one, hardly used it, but had one anyway lol. What about everyone else?
This is the one I had:
this article is interesting, were any of you orange customers one of the lucky ones to be given a free mobile or other gift to take you away from your pager:

oh god did i .... i hated on call then, now though they get hold of you
and expect a conversation straight away - at least with a pager you had
time to collect your wits at 3 a.m. !!!!

I used to have a seiko message watch. Fun thing, but the length of the text was very limited and it only had a 10 digit display which meant that 30 percent of the alphabet could not be displayed normally.

@miyagi - I was planning to get me one in 1993 . . .but when I saw and heard what the mobile phones can do . . . I changed my mind and just waited another year before I got my first celfone . . . I know . . . eventually knew that pagers will be out of BUSINESS once these mobile-phones established themselves in the communication-arena !
@nic - Never knew that SWATCH had this thing (pager-watch) . . . never reached the SWATCH display-rooms at my end . . .

@antichrist
I really don't know what makes you think that but it most certainly isn't true as i have had numerous pagers as they continued to improve as well as a BT credit card so that I could then find a phone box and act on being paged and that was around for quite a while before Mobile phones even launched the analogue system. As i joined the Mobile phone revolution on launch and i can assure you that was a long time after i relied on a pager.
