Just recieved the new Motorola H9 MiniBlue headset.

First impressions are that it is rather small, it will fit into the circ. of a UK 10 pence piece.

Build quality is also rather good.

In the box you get the following items;

1. Headset
2. Headset desktop charger and mobile charger dock
3. Mains charger w. UK and Euro plug adaptors
4. Instruction manual
5. Various sized ear buds

The Headset desktop charger and mobile charger dock is a neat device, you use it to charge the headset, which simply pushes into the top. Once it is in place, simply connect the mains chager to the base of the dock and off you go. The mains charger utilises a modern Moto USB socket, so any modern Moto charger will do the job. You maybe tempted to use USB charging via a computer, but Motorola advise against this in the instructions, no doubt due to the load needed.

The dock has to lights on the front panel. The top light illuminates to indicate that the internal battery in the H9 itself is charging, and this takes about 1.5 hours from empty.

Once the H9 battery is charged, the light goes out (indicating full charge) and the bottom light illuminates. This light indicates that the battery internal to the dock is charging. This takes about 6 hours to charge from empty.

This is the handy trick of this headset, the dock acts as a secondary top up supply for the H9 on the road.

Simply fully charge, then start to use the H9, when finished, simply clip the H9 into the dock, anywhere that the docks internal battery tops off the H9 to full again.

The manual states that the dock should be good to recharge the H9 4 times.

Now the important bit, in use.

Pairing.

The H9 on initial use pairs to any phone extreamely simply and easily. I have paired it to a SE M600, P990, Nokia 8800, N95, E65, Samsung P310 and various other easily and without failures.

Fit.

The H9 uses an in the ear style fit, similar to the newer SE walkman and Sony EX series earphones, the fit is snug and comfortable. The devices is light and it does not strain the ear once in place.

Sound Quality.

I would rate it as 80%, it not quite as good as the new Sony Ericsson models with DSP, but it's certainly better than many units I have tried, and to be honest, it's bloody amazing considering the size of the unit. I could hear the caller as well as any other headset I have used, and the caller at the other end report, slightly muffled, but certainly audible voice.

Negatives.

As the unit is so small the battery life is short compared to other units, at 1.5 hours talk time, but with the top up on supply from the dock, this is not as much of an issue as it could have been.

As a business user, its slightly lacking, but as a leisure unit, for the peeps looking for something small and modern it certainly fits the bill.

nicely written review and a nice looking bit of kit.

the one thing that bugs me using BT headsets is how they look but I guess this would be almost unnoticeable and probably mistaken for fashion jewelry.

The only similar units I have had are the AX and AX2 but they are a bit fiddly to keep in your ear whereas this sounds quite workable

Finally....they got it to work! Brilliant!

I remember being gutted when the H5 was being tested a couple of years ago, then got canned.....


....looks like it hasn't changed a bit! Must get one now, then....

To be honest I don't think they really designed it to be used whilst jogging, I find it realy comfortable, but again this is a personal issue, as long as you play about with the ear pieces and get a good fit it's cool.
