Very good decision.
I hope finally all phones will have the same charger and they forget the silly fastport /pop-port etc...

Well, will they make it on sold in china only or globally. I have 1 accessories already (quick charger) that use fastport. I am planning to buy another one (car charger) so I hope SE still have this one. It is already hurt when they change to fastport last time.
What I don't understand is how come ppl in china throwing out their old mobile charger? Don't they have to include it when they sold their phone?

maybe it is required. More items sold MORE TAXES are gained.

Sorry I can't include the article as it is in Indonesian language. But the move by the government is said to stop ppl throwing up old charger so that it can be reuse in newer phone. Well unless the phone is broken/scrapped by the owner then surely they must include it if they want to sell it?
Basically this mean two thing for manufacturers. They need to design phone that include minUSB and hence increase cost but they have reason not to include a charger now, which decrease cost. But overall they may loose opportunity to sell more charger accessories in the long run.
The requirement is ONLY for miniUSB charger function, so you may still not able to send data/flash firmware with miniUSB cable.

Excuse me for being ignorant but what is a mini usb charger? I can charge my K800 from the PC via the USB lead or the wall charger. Oh, then there's the car charger too, how many ways do you need to charge the phone?

The requirement is that, new phone (that is intended) to be sold in china, has to have miniUSB plug-in on the phone so that it can be charge with ANY AC miniUSB charger (standard 5V 200mA). The idea is SE phone must be able to be charged by Motorola/Nokia AC charger that also required to have miniUSB plug. So a Nokia phone also can be charge by BenQ charger and so on.
They argue that when ppl buy new phone from other brand they can still use the charger from old phone instead of throwing the charger out (why would they do that)? If ppl is throwing the old charger then it would be safe to conclude that they will also throw out the old phone. Wouldn't trash from old phone poses the same threat (for environment) as trash from the charger?
So it is not about using fastport USB-cable DC-60. but to put a miniUSB port for charging purposes into phone. Not charging from PC USB but from AC outlet. Again the article only mention about charging Not other like data transfer or flashing a phone.
Again this requirement does not make any sense to me.
