Guys, when a new phone is going to be taken up by a Network does the Network company - ie T-Mobile, Orange etc - enroll people to test the phones out before they are released on to the open market?

Or is this the job of the actual manufacturer?

I know my cousing was once given an unreleased Nokia last year by Orange or Nokia. She had to test all the functions, gadgets etc worked properly. She then got to keep the phone for free. I asked her who gave her the phone but she was unsure whether it was Orange or Nokia who asked her. She was just glad to have a new phone in her hand!

Hi all,

There is actually a company not to far away from Fatreg that gives last line Data support for all the manufacturers and Networks and they also have testing facilities. I know this as i am one of very few people that was not in their employee to have been allowed into their building this was at Ericsson's request whilst testing the GC25 data card many many years ago.

Hi Fatreg,

Yes that's the people getting in and out of their was liking getting in and out of Fort Knox but they used to have some of the brightest people in the industry there. Can't say what it is like now though as no longer running a Mobile Data company or being a member of the Mobile Data Association am only your average punter now. The person i used to have a good relationship with @ Ericsson last i heard was promoted to to Head of worldwide Data products.

T-Mobile do ALL there testing in house for devices in the respective countries but also in Germany. However, new services are tested by selected customers-in the later stages anyway of development.
