as far as i know, most K800's died because of their old EROM version. You can see EROM version by pressing >*www.wotanserver.com.Download the program, run it and press Start. Then, connect the USB cable to your phone while pressing simultaneously 2 & 5 keys.Your EROM version will then be R3A016.There is no charge for this.Sony ERicsson Update Service doesn't update your EROM,so the only way of doing it is WotanServer unless you can visit a service center! Some K800's also have a newer EROM version,R3A022,but i don't know if we will be able to update our EROMs in this verion.I don't know if this is a hardware or a software change!

I'm not too sure about branded vs unbranded K800i's and whether or not branded ones are more susceptible to failing, but if you have a branded K800i, I strongly suggest you pay and unbrand your phone while you're at it. There are many limitations with branded phones

There's nothing wrong with having that EROM is there? lol. It's supposedly the newest.

... i'm curious: is that true for all SE's on all networks? As it isn't true for all nokias on, e.g vodafone and o2 here in Ireland I'm really curious - and in n way trying to derail this into a nokia vs SE debate (have really had enough of that)! But neither my e61 nor my n91 and treo (the treo 750v in fact and curiously, though a vodafone-specific version is not network-locked and has zero limitation' wether I use it with my voda-sim or my o2 one!?) are in any way handicapped by their branding beyond the little network-sticker and start-up screen!? in fact, although I used to enjoy b*tching, esp'ly about vodafone, neither of the 3 have shown any kind of the problems reported in pre/-reviews! So: are branded SE's bolloxed? Or just the low-/midrange or certain networks?

With branded SE phones, they tend to restrict many functions that are available for unbranded SE phones; such as:

- Menu layout: this isn't a biggie, but Vodafone here in NZ like to change things around, and have the sickly red color as the main color, and many of the icons have changed location
- Camera shutter sound: a few service providers have disabled the ability to silence the shutter sound when the phone is in silent mode (I guess it's a privacy issue?)
- Personal/MP3 ringtones: I believe Rogers in the US bans the use of your own MP3 songs/clips are ringtones (i've heard a lot of ppl complain about it)
- Button functions/layout: Vodafone here have decided to change the dedicated "internet" button on the K800i to a "pickup/make call" button (like the green phone on nokias), and the EXTREMELY USEFUL "pop-up/shortcut" button to a "hang up/cancel call" button... I mean, COME ON!! WHAT'S THE POINT IN THAT?!!
- Flash menu themes/layout: this is the one that pisses most people off I think. On the newer walkman SE phones, namely, the ones after the W800i, a lot of themes that came with the phone had the ability to change the whole look/layout of the menu structure. Pretty much all branded phones have this feature disabled.

I think I've only covered a few points as to why I believe branded phones aren't worth time/money. I'm sure there're many other problems/debates out there. The stuff I've included above are based solely on my own observations, and from what I've read on the net

Vodafone and Orange also remove the My Friends IM app and Playnow from their handsets for some reason.
