What did they expect? Wifi transfer speed not only depends on wifi chip but also the system (ie. cpu/bus) speed. It is a PHONE and not a 2.4GHz pentium with 1GB RAM.!!! Even I put my 2 notebooks next to my wifi-g router to transfer file, the thru-put is still way off.

Nowadays, many hotspots lock out Wifi-B devices from connecting. Wifi-g support is still much preferable even if it cannot reach the optimum thru put

This is not news but is a well known and understood effect the reason for having WiFi g is not for the increased speed but is for easier and better compatibility with wireless Networks that either don't support the now older standard or just don't run in dual mode as this effects the whole Networks performance so would give slower speeds for other users with Laptops that can utilise the speed offered.
