I'm undecided as to the replacement for my W810. Do I want a "fashion" phone, a camera-centric phone, or a true smartphone? I miss having a PDA, which says I need a smartphone. But I've become used to the W810's auto-focus 2MP camera. And almost every phone I've owned has been all function and no style in its looks.

The S500 comes to mind as the right fashion phone for me - one that handles all the basics and looks sharp. Motorola's are also good-looking, but their UI, address book, and have generally been terrible.

For a camera phone, the only ones out right now that I like are the K790a (too big, too old, still too pricey (for its age)), or the K550i (awful, awful, awful keypad). There's always the "big" announcement on June 14, but I won't hold my breath.

As for smartphones, the best one for me (USA compatibility, features, price) is the Nokia E50.

How do I decide which way to go? And what other phones should I consider? (Phones containing application, lacking 850 MHz, lacking EDGE, and possessing 2100 Mhz-only 3G are useless to me.)

yep, S500 is anything but a fashion phone, its cheap looking and made of cheap plastic, atleast thats what the pictures tell us and nothing about it speaks fashion.
7380 or 7390 are your best bet, they're both amazing phones, and if you have the cash, why not Prada?

@HlcnTwst

The T650i will be out in a few weeks time but IMO, if you think the S500i might be what you're after then go and see it in the flesh and see what you think.

Lots of people have an impression of phones from pictures but its only when they actually hold the phone that they get a true impression. I noticed this happen with the W880i.

I you just want a no-nonsense phone that looks nice and covers the basics they you have a wide choice but I wouldn't judge a phone on specs alone.

By "fashion phone" I meant something that's stylish in looks but basic in features - one that doesn't try to be a camera, music player, etc. I didn't mean some high-end Paris Hilton gadget, e.g. Vertu, Prada, etc. I sure don't have the cash for that.

I'd love a T650, but it lacks the 850 MHz band, and I cant use 2100 MHz 3G.

Is the S500 really so "cheap" and "plasticky" ?

Well, I haven't held one yet(nowhere to purchase one from), but I'm sure it won't be ANY worse than my N95(slide, cam lens cover switch), or an N71, which I have held(put back together), many times....
....in fact, fiver(Paypal or bank transfer) says the slider on S500i will be BETTER than N95's......anyone??
