Mobile Today Awards Winners List

The Judging Panel

Great News Folks!!

Our very own Sony Ericsson won Best Manufacturer

"Last year, Sony Ericsson made the shortlist because of its ‘innovative, exciting range of handsets’, but lost out because no-one could get hold of any. Nonetheless, the judges singled the manufacturer out as one to watch in 2006-7.

How right they were. This year, the voting was unanimous. As one judge put it: ‘There’s no debate – Sony Ericsson.’ "

Once again the K800i won the title of best Best Consumer Handset:

"There was only ever going to be one winner for this Award. Sony Ericsson’s K800i Cyber-shot handset was the first 3.2-megapixel camera phone and has sold by the bucketload since launching last summer. And it still continues to hold the judges’ attention.

The panel said the K800i was ‘a great handset for Sony Ericsson’. ‘It has proved to be the top handset for a sustained period.’ The panel commended Sony Ericsson for its ‘professional launch’, with strong stock levels, low returns and good trade pricing. It also praised the manufacturer for successfully cementing the ‘phenomenal’ Cyber-shot brand in consumers’ minds.

As for the handset, the judges loved it: ‘The K800i does everything and it does it very, very well,’ was the unanimous verdict. "

Bloody Great Stuff!

Congratulations the awards just keep coming and I'm sure more will come with the arrival of the new phones announced in May. I can't wait for that S500i...

And I noticed that Vodafone picked up several awards too, including one for their VMC USB modem (called the Vodem here in NZ). I have a Vodem, in fact i'm using it now.... and I find the software tempramental at best. It doesn't like certain other programs I have on my Laptop and until I recognised the conflicts, constantly crashed my computer. Hardly award winning IMO. And any slight movement of the cable crashes the connection and it won't reconnect without a hibernation... argh!!

Hi all,

It's always nice to win awards but you must wonder just who the panel where as to make this statement is really quite ludicrous.

"The panel said the K800i was ‘a great handset for Sony Ericsson’. ‘It has proved to be the top handset for a sustained period.’ The panel commended Sony Ericsson for its ‘professional launch’, with strong stock levels, low returns and good trade pricing"

How they managed to fail to notice the EROM problems on launch that had loads of these phones refusing to start with just the red blinking led on launch makes a complete mockery of the whole statement. No one including me is denying the K800 is indeed a great camera phone and has sold extremely well but to claim a professional launch with low returns is just not right and makes a complete mockery of the award IMO had they not said that all would of been well but with that statement it does make you wonder just what is going on.

Marc
